Clothing is subject to people’s expectations and perceptions of masses. By adding unusual shapes I invite viewers to stay away from quick judgements and look at the feminine body from different angles to create new perceptions.
Sense of Doubt
By Merel de Jong, Amsterdam Fashion Institute, Amsterdam
Everything plays a part - has a place in our mind, ‘the mind of being’. The perception of a human being determines the way we encounter things and attribute meaning.
Clothing is subject to people’s expectations and perceptions of masses. By adding unusual shapes I invite viewers to stay away from quick judgements and look at the feminine body from different angles to create new perceptions. The stainless steel in my collection contradicts the feminine curves in which it is shaped and the drapings of translucent fabrics provide a soft touch. This material choice represents the different ways to look at the female body.

About Lichting
The concept of ‘Lichting’ is simple: the best academy graduates of one year in 1 central catwalk show. In the audience are the 700 most important people for the next step in their careers: fashion journalists and influential stylists, ready to spot the next big thing; CEO’s and design managers on the look-out for talent; and the all-important players-behind-the-scenes, all eager to see what the nation’s academies have brought forth this year.
