Summertime
By Bianca Herranz van Roeden, ArtEZ Institute of the Arts Arnhem, Arnhem
I came across a picture of a very elegant lady wearing a suit from the ‘jazz age’. During my time at the academy, this time period proved a lasting source of inspiration for my work and aesthetics. My graduate collection is based on the imaginary dialogue between this picture and a well-known technique from the twenties; draping. My goal was to create an elegant womens collection with a masculine and cool twist. This masculinity is expressed in shapes – like the classic shirt -, fabrics – cottons and wools - and colors – derived from the familiar black and white combinations in mens suits from the twenties.

About Lichting
The concept of ‘Lichting’ is simple: the best academy graduates of one year in 1 central catwalk show. In the audience are the 700 most important people for the next step in their careers: fashion journalists and influential stylists, ready to spot the next big thing; CEO’s and design managers on the look-out for talent; and the all-important players-behind-the-scenes, all eager to see what the nation’s academies have brought forth this year.
